4 Easy Ways To Take Care Of Your Boiler

Posted on: 29 December 2018

Your broiler helps keep your home nice and warm, and is really important to your comfort and healthy from late fall through early spring. Your broiler is an appliance that you don't want to neglect. No one wants to have to hang out in a cold house as they try to find someone to fix their boiler. Luckily, there are some easy ways you can ensure that your boiler continues to run effectively.

#1 Use Your Boiler Regularly

One of the best ways to ensure that your boiler continues to function correctly is to use it throughout the year. That means even in the summer, you should turn on your boiler and let it run for a few hours at least once a month. Turing on your boiler for a little while during the months where you don't really need it can be an effective way to keep your boiler working. People often have issues when they use their boiler for the first time in the fall because they let it sit unused for so many months. The parts in your boiler need to move, even if you only turn your boiler on for a short period of time every few weeks during the warmer months of the year.

#2 Check the Pressure Gauge

In order for your boiler to work effectively, it needs to hold in pressure. On your boiler, there is a pressure gauge you can check to make sure that your boiler is keeping the right pressure range. You can find the ideal pressure range in your owner's manual, or ask your appliance repair technician for the ideal range. Write down the ideal range and post it near the gauge. If the pressure falls below the ideal range, call in a professional to fix the issue.

#3 Allow Your Boiler to Ventilate

Next, make sure that your boiler has room to ventilate.  Your boiler needs to have air around it. You should not have boxes stacked up next to your boiler. Your boiler needs free space around it. Free space will ensure that your boiler has the air flow it needs to operate effectively. Additionally, keeping clutter away from your boiler will make it easier to access.

#4 Get a Yearly Inspection

Finally, make sure to have your boiler inspected and serviced by a heating professional at least once a year. This is one of the best ways to ensure that all the parts are working. A professional will check and make sure all parts are working, replace anything that is damaged, and clean all of the components. This is something you need to do once a year in order to keep your boiler in good shape.
